Preschool Snack Bento #27 - Almost a Pizza Pocket

It was close, but someone ate the pepperonis while I was making said bento. I originally was going to stuff the mini pitas with basil/tomato cream cheese & pepperonis, then add shredded cheese on top. However, the lack of pepperoni and the late hour meant immediate substitutions.

Mr. Ben still had his mini pitas stuffed with tomato-basil cream cheese, but he had chunks of mozzarella to go with it and some grapes. Less than exciting, imho, but he was happy with it.

Preschool Snack Bento #26 - Monday's Melons, & Muffins, & Mickey, Oh My!

It's alliteration Monday! ;o) I like alliteration. And honestly, it's not always easy to come up with alliterative bentos. This one wasn't even on purpose, which makes it that much more amusing.

For preschool, Mr. Ben had two mini muffins that were some sort of raspberry filled coffee cakes along with canteloupe (a few hearts because Mommy loves him) and his very favorite "Peanut" pick. The muffins fit perfectly in the ears of a Mickey shaped box we had which also made Ben happy.

Preschool Snack Bento #25 - Fruit & Dumplings

Faith & I decided to try out the new Kroger Marketplace store yesterday and were quite enthralled with the selection of ready to go items. While perusing the sushi section for Shaun (and watching the guys make it in store), we discovered steamed dumplings. The gentleman who was setting them out told us that he had just steamed a bunch of them and gave us a package that was still warm. They seemed kind of like gyoza or shu mai, but this batch was chicken (which I like better than pork, btw).

Anyhow, long story short, everyone loved them, and we had two leftover for Mr. Ben's bento lunch.

The boy took 2 dumplings, lots of canteloupe and some purple grapes. I heated the dumplings in a little water to keep them warm, then decided it was probably not a good idea to leave the grapes next to them. The grapes were moved to the fruit side after the picture. His preschool teacher told me they were still warm when he ate them at snack time.

Preschool Snack Bento #24 - Ben's Favorite Fruits & Pockets

I went to the grocery store. The boy has fruit again, and his favorite pocket bread. All is well in his world. He, of course, wanted one of his favorite snack combinations for school.

He had mini pitas stuffed with strawberry cream cheese, green grapes & canteloupe chunks. We used a couple of cute new picks from my friend Chrystyna to make it a bit cuter. Who doesn't like penguins & dolphins?

Preschool Snack Bento #23 - Sandwich rolls and eggs

Or alternatively titled, Mommy forgot to buy enough fruit!

I take that back. I did buy fruit. The boy & his sister ate it all for breakfast. This left me with assorted options for lunch that didn't sound too healthy, so I went with the following and assumed half a canteloupe between two small children was quite a large fruit serving for one day!

The boy opted for a sliced boiled egg, faux sushi/rolled sandwiches with ham & cream cheese, a few goldfish and a few animal crackers to fill in the gaps.

And I went to the grocery store and bought another canteloupe, a bag of grapes and 7 bananas. That might last through the weekend.

Preschool Snack Bento #22 - A New Year

I guess this might be bento #22. I really think it's further along, maybe 25 or 26. This Monday was boring because we had just gotten home and I had no groceries, so the boy took goldfish & a cheese stick. I really think there were 1 or 2 bentos from before Christmas, but I cannot find the pictures!

So for now, I give you the current bento #22:

The boy had banana nut mini-muffins and diced canteloupe with picks, his choice. Nothing fancy, but we're still playing "get settled back home from vacation" so I'll take easy any day!

We are home! And a random lunch :o)

We're back from our Christmas vacation in Canada and home safely in Texas. Time to get back to the lunch grind.

For your viewing pleasure, a Faith lunch that I had on my desktop. I have no idea where we were going or why she needed a lunch, but it's cute and not yet posted.

She has some sort of bear shaped sandwiches (ham & cream cheese would be my guess), koala cookies, grapes, carrot sticks & ranch dressing in the Hello Kitty container.

Wish I could remember what it was from ...
